Visit to a local farm

Last week we went on a visit to Quanterness farm to find out more about farm animals and how you look after them.  We found out lots of interesting information and asked lots of great questions.
For some of us it was our first visit to a farm and there were lots of sights, sounds and smells to get used to!

Our trip to the Auction Mart

On Monday we went to Orkney Auction Mart with our friends from Class 2T.  It was a long walk but we all did really well.  On the way we saw boats coming into the pier and baby lambs in the fields.

First we went to the balcony to see the cattle that were for sale.  We asked lots of interesting questions about farming and farm animals.

Then we went to the ring to watch some of the cattle being sold.  The auctioneer talked really fast and we found it hard to understand what he was saying.  We all watched mezmorised!

Litter Survey at the Peedie Sea

Last Friday we went a walk around the paths at the Peedie Sea.  We were looking to see how much litter we could find.

Sadly, we found quite a lot of plastic and food packaging.  We decided we should go back and help clean up the area.  This will help the 'Pick Up 3 Pieces' campaign.

Visiting the local community

On the final Wednesday of the term we went to St Rognvald's Residential Home.  We played all of the Orcadian and Australian songs we had been learning in Figurenotes.  Everyone did really well and  returned to school feeling proud.

Skipping for the British Heart Foundation

We had a busy day at the end of term completing our sponsored skip.  It was great to have our friends from Primary 5 there to encourage us and showw us some of the skills they had learned.

Before we started, we took part in a warm up with Mrs Linklater.  Then we were all set to go!

We all worked hard to complete as many skips as we could in 5 minutes.  A few people were absent due to illness so they will have the opportunity to complete the challenge at the start of the term.
We were very grateful for the juice the staff at Picky gave us at the end.

I wonder how many skips these people did?

Another orienteering opportunity

On Thursday we went to Mudddisdale to try another orienteering activity.  This time we were focusing on finding different Scottish landmarks.
We set out at top speed to find the different markers!

Each time we found a picture we had to return to base and mark our chart the correct colour.

We all co-operated with our partners and made great teams.
